Spring Celebration 5k Results

Since I don't have any photos of the Spring Celebration 5k, I thought I'd share this one taken from the
top of Hawksbill Mountain yesterday afternoon (More photos follow results)

The 2nd running of the Ashe County Spring Celebration 5k was Saturday, May 22 at Family Central in Jefferson, NC. The day was perfectly spring: 65 degrees and drizzling on and off during the registration and run time.

The male and female overall winners (Glenn Bailey and Lisa Freeman) received a gift certificate for a pair of Montrail shoes and medals. Age group winners received medals. Door prizes were generous and an abundance of snacks provided.

As you can gather one of my workouts this past weekend included Linville Gorge. A magificiant day for a 4 hour run up Table Rock, Hawksbill and around parts of the east gorge. Monday comes way too fast!

Sounds like you had a good day for the 5k. I am sure they appreciate all of your help. Appears to have been a good crowd with a large amount of post-race food. I have a feeling that this past weekend helped out with your trail legs coming back around!

Annette,

I think I might have told you that in 1986 I took a 9-day Outward Bound course for educators that started and ended near Table Rock. We spent our first night up there and then hiked down into the gorge (with 50 lb packs, of course). We followed the trail along the river and hiked into the Ampitheater (eventually with the help of the leaders as we couldn't follow a map and compass to save our lives). I remember climbing to our campsite in the dark and seeing critters eyes staring back at us. The next evening we hiked through the night to our van which took us to the Nantahala OC for the white water portion of the trip. Looking back, I know it planted a seed that later bloomed into my desire to run long distances. A lot of personal growth was done on that trip. Nowadays when people tell me they are thinking of going on a NOLS or OB trip, I tell them to train for a 100 miler. It's cheaper and you get the same ass kick! :-)
