Wow!
A ton of life energy was exposed and shared today during the
3rd running of the New River Trail 50k in Fries, VA! We had 130
finishers all under the 7-hour time limit! Congratulations to you all! And a
million thanks to our many selfless and energetic volunteers and partners at VA
State Parks…it takes a real team effort to create this event.
Twenty four year old Kate Brun set a new CR at 3:49:15,
Jenny Anderson followed as runner up meeting her personal goal of sub 4:00 with
3:59:0 and Melissa Ball chased her close with 3:59:42. All 3 women bettered
Jenny’s 2009 CR!
On the guy’s side, Chris Motta, 26 led the pack with a
3:33:36 win, with Doug Covington, 41 at 3:39:47 and Dwight Shuler, 46 was next.
As I write, I will keep this post brief, as I am almost
hallucinating with being tired and with celebration of what seems like a very
successful run for many folks. George and I are staying in Fries again tonight
and I am still w/o cell reception or Internet access. If this post goes up this
evening, it is because I have pirated Internet access from somewhere in Galax
where I am soon to visit in order to seek out some wine.
At this point I have no cell reception and expect that if in
years past folks will be inquiring about left items and un-collected drop bags.
The staff of New River Trail State Park has these items that were left on
course or at S/F and tomorrow evening when I post here again I shall share
“lost item fetching” details.
For now here are the unofficial results through the 10th
woman. If the format is funky, I apologize; full results will be posted by 8pm
Sunday 10/10 on www.ncnr.org/nrt50k.html.
I will be submitting a race report and results ASAP for publication in the next
possible edition of www.ultrarunning.org

Thank you - thank you - thank you! This was my first 50k and I could not possible think of a better even to try out the distance! You and your team put on a great event in a beautiful locale - it was simply wonderful! Again - thanks!
